Text: Isaiah 43:19 – “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not perceive it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” – KJV
Introduction
GOD spoke these words to Israel while they were in Babylonian captivity. They were stuck in pain, looking back at Egypt and the wilderness, wondering if anything good could come again. God interrupted their despair with a promise of movement.
“I will do a new thing” is not a wish. It is a declaration from the God who creates, restores, and advances His people.
1. God is a God of New Beginnings
“Behold, I will do a new thing”
God does not repeat Himself out of limitation. He is creative, and He moves His people forward.
a. In Genesis 1:1, He spoke order out of chaos.
b. In Exodus 14:21-22, He opened the Red Sea where there was no road.
c. In John 11:43-44, He called Lazarus out of the grave after four days.
The phrase “new thing” means unprecedented, fresh, and beyond what has been seen before. If you expect God to only repeat your past testimony, you may miss what He is doing now.
Supporting verse: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” – Corinthians 5:17]
2. The New Thing Requires Spiritual Perception
“Now it shall spring forth; shall ye not perceive it?”
God’s new thing often starts small, like a seed. Many miss it because they are distracted by disappointment or fixated on the past.
To perceive it, you need:
a. A heart open to God* – “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.”_ [Psalm 119:18]
b. Sensitivity to the Spirit – The disciples walked with the risen Christ and didn’t recognize Him until their eyes were opened [Luke 24:31].
c. Expectation – Faith positions you to notice what God is doing.
If you keep looking backward, you will miss what God is springing forth now.
3. God Makes a Way in Impossible Places
“I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”
A wilderness is a place of lack, confusion, and testing. A desert is a place of barrenness and hopelessness. God is declaring that location is not a limitation.
For Israel, the wilderness had no road, no water, no food. Yet God led them with a pillar of cloud and fire, fed them with manna, and brought water from the rock [Exodus 16:4, 17:6].
Your wilderness may be financial, marital, health-related, or spiritual. The promise is the same: God will make a way.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” – [Jeremiah 29:11]
4. How to Position Yourself for the New Thing
God’s promise is sure, but there are postures that align us with it:
a. Let go of the past
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.”_ [Isaiah 43:18]
You cannot hold the new while clutching the old—old wounds, old failures, old methods.
b. Trust God in the process
Trust grows when you believe God sees you even when nothing changes outwardly. “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” – [Psalm 37:5]
c. Obey promptly
When God gives direction, delay is disobedience. Obedience is the doorway to the new. “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.” – [Isaiah 1:19]
5. What the New Thing Looks Like
The new thing is always purposeful and tied to God’s glory:
a. A new door after a closed season.
b. Healing after years of pain.
c. Restoration of relationships and purpose.
d. Fresh anointing and spiritual growth.
It may not look like what you expected, but it will move you forward. “All things work together for good to them that love God.” – [Romans 8:28]
Conclusion
God is saying to you today what He said to Israel: Behold, I will do a new thing. Stop disqualifying yourself because of your past. Stop limiting God to what He did before.
The God who made a road in the sea and rivers in the desert is still working. Lift your eyes. Let go of the old. Position yourself in faith and obedience.
Prayer: Father, thank You for being a God of new things. I surrender my past, my pain, and my limitations to You. Open my eyes to perceive what You are doing. Make a way for me in this wilderness. Let rivers flow in my dry places, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
