Theme: Jesus takes your natural skill and turns it into a supernatural calling
INTRODUCTION
Peter had fished all night and caught nothing. – Luke 5:5
He was tired, frustrated, and ready to quit.
But one encounter with Jesus changed everything.
After a miracle catch of fish, Jesus looked at Peter and said:
Luke 5:10 – “…Do not be afraid; from now on you will catch men.”
That day Peter went from fisherman to fisher of men.
From the boat to the nations.
From business to ministry.
God is about to do the same for you.
1: THE BACKGROUND – WHEN YOU’VE CAUGHT NOTHING
Luke 5:1-5
1. He Was Tired – “We toiled all night and caught nothing” v5
You’ve prayed, worked, sown, and still have empty nets. God sees it.
2. He Was About to Quit – v3 “He sat down and taught the people from the boat”
Jesus uses your boat even when you feel empty.
3. Obedience Precedes Breakthrough – “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets” v4
John 2:5 – “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
2: THE TURNING POINT – THE MIRACLE CATCH
Luke 5:6-7
1. The Nets Were Breaking – v6 “their net was breaking”
When Jesus steps in, your capacity expands.
Ephesians 3:20 – “able to do exceedingly abundantly above all”
2. It Was Too Much to Handle Alone – v7 “they beckoned to partners”
God’s blessing will be so big you’ll need help.
Deuteronomy 28:8 – “The Lord will command the blessing on you”
3. The Miracle Revealed Jesus – v8 “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man”
When you see God’s power, you see your need for Him.
Isaiah 6:5 – “Woe is me, for I am a man of unclean lips”
3: THE CALL – “FROM NOW ON YOU WILL CATCH MEN”
Luke 5:10
Jesus didn’t reject Peter’s skill. He redeemed it.
THREE THINGS THIS CALL MEANS:
1. A New Purpose
You were not just made to make money, build career, or raise family.
Mark 1:17 – “Come after Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”
2 Corinthians 5:20 – “we are ambassadors for Christ”
2. A New Strategy
Fishing for men requires bait: Love, Word, Testimony, Compassion.
1 Corinthians 9:22 – “I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.”
3. A New Power Source
You can’t catch men in your own strength.
Acts 1:8 – “you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you”
Zechariah 4:6 – “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit”
4: FOUR LESSONS FROM CATCHING MEN
1. Leave the Nets to Follow Him – Luke 5:11 “they forsook all and followed Him”
Matthew 6:33 – “Seek first the kingdom of God”
2. God Uses Ordinary People – Peter was uneducated Acts 4:13, but God used him.
1 Corinthians 1:27 – “God has chosen the foolish things of the world”
3. The Harvest is Plentiful – Matthew 9:37 “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few”
People are in the “deep” waiting for you.
4. There’s Joy in the Catch – Luke 15:7 “there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents”
5: HOW TO “CATCH MEN”
1. By Your Lifestyle – Matthew 5:16 “let your light shine before men”
2. By Your Testimony – Revelation 12:11 “they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony”
3. By Preaching the Word – Mark 16:15 “Go into all the world and preach the gospel”
4. By Prayer and Compassion – Colossians 4:3 “praying… that God would open to us a door for the word”
PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS
1. Lord, take my empty nets and fill them! Luke 5:6
2. From today, I will catch men for Your kingdom! Luke 5:10
3. My business, my talent, my career — become a tool for soul-winning!
4. Lord, send me to the “deep” where the great catch is! Luke 5:4
5. I will not be afraid. I will be a fisher of men! 2 Timothy 1:7
PRAYER: Father, thank You for calling us. Like Peter, many of us have toiled all night and caught nothing. But today Jesus is saying: “Do not be afraid; from now on you will catch men.”
Your job, your gift, your influence — God wants to use it to draw people to Him.
John 15:16 – “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit”
Will you say yes to the call?
Will you let Jesus get into your “boat” and direct your nets?
The world is full of fish. The Lord needs fishers.
